Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested two Angolan nationals who excreted a total of 236 wraps of cocaine after being intercepted at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The suspects 50-year-old Mbandu Martins Makiadi and 52-year-old Ngoma Wilson Fernando were apprehended on February 4 during outward passenger screening at the airport’s departure hall. They were scheduled to travel to Istanbul, Turkey, via Addis Ababa on an Ethiopian Airlines flight.
According to NDLEA officials, the duo was flagged during clearance checks and subjected to body scans, which confirmed the presence of ingested illicit substances. They were subsequently placed under observation.
During the monitoring period, Makiadi expelled 76 wraps of cocaine weighing 920 grams across seven excretions, while Fernando excreted 108 pellets weighing 1.33 kilograms in five excretions.
Investigations revealed that both men, residents of Hoji Ya Henda in Luanda, Angola, had allegedly ingested the drugs for trafficking to Turkey. They claimed to have been recruited by an automobile spare parts dealer based in Luanda, who promised to pay them $3,000 each upon successful delivery of the consignments.
