On Thursday, the microblogging platform withdrew verification badges from Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Peter Okoye, all of whom are Nigerian singers.
It is worth noting that in a tweet from March, which included links to sign up for the premium service, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, had suggested plans to monetize the verification tick.
Elon Musk, says:
”We will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks on the 1st of April. To keep your blue checkmark, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.”
Elon Musk announced on his verified Twitter account that the final date for removing the legacy blue checks is April 20th.
The removal of the legacy blue tick from the Nigerian superstars may be linked to their failure to pay the verification subscription fee that was announced by Musk.
