Troops Rescue 3 Kidnap Victims, Recover Bodies And Motorcycles

The soldiers of Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) and 6 Brigade Nigerian Army carried out successful operations under the direction of Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa on March 13, 2024, as part of a strategic mission to address the persistent threat posed by violent extremists in Southern Taraba and the surrounding regions.

In the course of the operations, the forces found eight bodies and four motorbikes in addition to rescuing three abducted victims. These results were made possible by the military forces’ concerted efforts.

An attack on an eighteen-seater bus at Gamkwe Village along Maraban-Baisa in Donga Local Government Area was one of the major incidents that led to the military reaction. Fifteen people, including a baby, was kidnapped in the attack. Due to this incident, a major local route was blocked. The military were able to remove the barrier and completely investigate the nearby villages of Gankwe, Aakar, Gidan Adamu, and Magudu through rigorous patrols and search operations. In the end, eight bodies—including that of a missing baby—were recovered.

Additionally, upon receiving intelligence on armed militias surrounding Sanso village in Donga Local Government Area, the troops swiftly mobilized to the location. It was revealed that the militias had arrived at Sanso from Anu village using a wooden canoe via the River Donga before carrying out their nefarious attack.

The militias stole valuable items, including motorcycles, and kidnapped several villagers. In response, the troops engaged in a pursuit operation, resulting in the successful rescue of three female kidnap victims and the recovery of four motorcycles, along with significant quantities of grains. The military forces also took action to disrupt the activities of the armed militias in the area.

The Nigerian Army’s and Operation Whirl Stroke’s actions show a dedication to upholding security and tranquility in Taraba by successfully fending off threats from violent extremists and criminal groups in the area.

The Chairman of Donga Local Government Area, Hon. Ezra Voka, expressed gratitude to the Commander for his quick actions in reestablishing calm in the villages and promised the military ongoing, timely information and intelligence support on behalf of his people. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
