Tribunal Sacks LP’s Okolie, Declares PDP’s Elumelu Winner Of Reps Seat In Delta

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State, has made a landmark ruling, declaring Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the rightful winner of the 2023 House of Representatives election for Aniocha-Oshimili Federal Constituency.

The tribunal’s judgment, delivered on Monday, dealt a significant blow to the earlier declaration made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which had announced Ngozi Okolie of the Labour Party (LP) as the winner of the election.

The crux of the tribunal’s decision rested on the fact that Ngozi Okolie was not a legitimate member of the Labour Party at the time of the party’s primary, held on May 28, 2022.

Consequently, the tribunal ruled that Okolie was not duly sponsored by the Labour Party for the February 25, 2023, National Assembly election.

In response to the outcome, the former Minority Leader of the 9th House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, had filed a petition before the tribunal, urging them to disqualify Okolie and recognize him as the rightful winner of the election.

With the tribunal’s verdict in favor of Ndudi Elumelu, the 2023 House of Representatives election results for Aniocha-Oshimili Federal Constituency have been revised, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate officially takes the seat as the legitimate representative of the constituency.
