Tragic Loss as Gunmen Fatally Shoot Pastor in Northern State; CAN Responds

In a deeply sorrowful incident, a pastor at Tawaliu Baptist Church in Kujama, situated in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state, fell victim to an assassination carried out by unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, August 23.

Reverend Joseph John Hayab, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, confirmed the heartbreaking news of Jeremiah Mayau’s passing to the press on Thursday, August 24.

Rev. Hayab offered prayers for solace and comfort for the bereaved family, the church, and the wider Christian community.

The tragic event unfolded in Kaduna state, where a man of the cloth experienced a grievous attack.

On August 23, suspected gunmen targeted Jeremiah Mayau, a pastor affiliated with Tawaliu Baptist Church in Kujama, within the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state. The Kaduna state police command has not yet provided official confirmation regarding the pastor’s assassination.

Reacting to the distressing incident, Reverend Joseph Hayab, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, confirmed the occurrence on Thursday, August 24, in the capital city of Kaduna.

It’s important to note that Kujama is located a short distance away from the city itself.

According to Hayab, the pastor was attacked while he was on his farm. He expressed strong condemnation for the heinous act and urged security forces to exercise increased vigilance in their duties across the state.

Hayab described the incident as “barbaric,” emphasizing the need for swift action and justice.

As of the time of reporting, the spokesperson for the Kaduna state police command, Mohammad Jalige, has not issued a statement regarding this unfortunate incident.

Additionally, in a separate and equally distressing event, assailants invaded the God’s Vineyard of Grace Dominion Assembly in Benin, Edo State, where they targeted the church pastor, Reverend Samuel Chinyereugo.

Tragically, Mrs. Peace Chinyereugo, the pastor’s wife, lost her life in the attack. This incident highlights a deeply concerning trend of violence against religious figures.

The pastor’s wife, Bose Dada, also sustained injuries during this horrific assault.
