A family in Auchi, Edo State, has been devastated by tragedy after two brothers, both medical doctors, were kidnapped and one was killed.
The victims are Dr. Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, a housemanship doctor, and his younger brother, Tahir Abu Emhoye, a recent medical graduate. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at their residence when Tahir went to pick up his elder brother from work. As Tahir stepped out of the car to open their gate along City Pride Road, armed gunmen ambushed them and abducted both brothers into a nearby bush.
The kidnappers initially demanded a ₦200 million ransom, later reduced to ₦100 million. Before the family could raise the funds, the situation turned fatal. Tahir Abu Emhoye was killed, and his body was later recovered by a joint team of security forces, vigilantes, and hunters near a riverside. Conflicting reports suggest he was either shot while attempting to escape or deliberately murdered to intimidate the family.
Dr. Babatunde remains in captivity as his family continues to struggle to secure his release. This heartbreaking incident has sparked widespread grief and renewed fears over the escalating insecurity in the region.
