Governor Hyacinth Alia and Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), have reached a peace agreement thanks to the mediation of HRM Professor James Ayatse, the paramount monarch of the Tiv Nation.
The reconciliation took place in Gboko’s Tor Tiv Palace in Monday night.
Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Barnabas Gemade, escorted Governor Alia to the reconciliation meeting, while Senator Akume was accompanied by Senator Jack Gyado and members of the State Assembly, including Chief Titus Zam (Benue North West), Asema Achado (Gwer+ Gwer West), and Minister of Water Resources Joseph Utsev.
The discussion took place behind closed doors and continued late into the night. News reporters and other political players were later allowed access.
Before Tor Tiv and the public, Alia and Akume clasped hands and gave each other hugs, indicating that the reconciliation agreement had been accepted.
However, the specifics of the agreement are still secret.
Austine Agada was recognized as the chairman of Benue state by Senator George Akume and the National Secretariat of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), while Governor Alia’s section of the party has already established another Secretariat with Omakolo as its chairman.
