President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s security institutions.
The renewal took effect from Friday, February 27, following the conclusion of Audi’s first tenure. He is expected to resume duties on Monday with a clear presidential directive: to reposition the NSCDC for a more prominent role in the national security architecture.
The move aligns with ongoing reforms aimed at relieving the Nigeria Police Force of auxiliary duties, enabling it to concentrate on core crime-fighting responsibilities against bandits, kidnappers, terrorists, and other threats.
Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996, completed basic officer training in 1997, and was posted as Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. Over the years, he rose through various state commands before being promoted to Commandant of Corps in 2007 and redeployed to the National Headquarters in Abuja.
The reappointment underscores confidence in Audi’s leadership at a time when the NSCDC is increasingly involved in critical infrastructure protection, disaster management, and support for internal security operations. Observers expect intensified focus on training, equipment, and inter-agency collaboration in the years ahead.
