Former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie has weighed in on the recent airport incident involving ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, following reports that security operatives attempted to detain him upon his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
In a post on her verified X account, Onochie described El-Rufai as a man who foresaw the situation, noting that he had earlier predicted a possible arrest upon returning to Nigeria. She dismissed the move as unsurprising, attributing it to predictable political strategists.
According to Onochie, the actions are aimed at preventing certain political figures from replicating for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) what they helped achieve for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 elections.
She concluded with a pointed remark: “The man who saw tomorrow. Only yesterday, he predicted they would try to arrest him on his return. Predictable political strategists. They want to stop us from doing for ADC in 2027 what we did for Tinubu in 2023. Tinubu is Gone. God bless Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, El-Rufai has condemned the attempted arrest as illegal. In a statement issued by his lawyer, Ubong Esop Akpan, he faulted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for issuing an invitation letter while he was outside the country.
