Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have detained three alleged Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) recruiters in Banki, Borno State, while they were mobilizing young men for terrorist training. The arrest occurred on January 17 after the Banki District Head provided a tip-off, according to sources speaking to Zagazola Makama.
Intelligence agents conducted a covert operation in Banki and intercepted the suspects as they were reportedly recruiting youths between the ages of 17 and 20 and arranging to transport them to Adamawa State for ISWAP instruction. The detainees—identified as Gajibo Kayama (23), Tahiru Modu (22), and Bulama Modu (24)—are said to be former ISWAP members who had previously claimed repentance around five years ago but are suspected of having resumed recruitment operations.
The suspects have been transferred to the Military Intelligence Regiment for in-depth interrogation and next steps.
