A group of alleged repentant Boko Haram insurgents stormed the Nigeria Customs Service and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency checkpoints on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
It was learned that the assailants chased off the on-duty staff and set fire to every building at the checkpoints.
According to reports, the event happened after a heated altercation inside the Kasuwan Fara Divisional Police Office between the police and the alleged former Boko Haram fighters.
The Borno State Government has since designated the area for closure due to the rise and persistence of criminal activities and sinister operations by drug dealers who include ex-military personnel, reformed insurgents, and other hoodlums who congregate there to conduct nefarious activities.
In order to cleanse the area while waiting for the ultimate closure, the operation on April 24 resulted in the arrest of eight alleged repentant rebels and the confiscation of 426 bottles of liquor, including dry gin.
Since the day of their arrest, the individuals in custody have been housed in the Kasuwan Fara police division. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
