Suspected Kidnapper Neutralized As Security Operatives Rescue Abducted Victims In Ondo State

Isua, the headquarters of Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State, witnessed a dramatic rescue mission as joint security operatives successfully saved 13 individuals who were abducted by gunmen while en route to Abuja. The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, when the victims, traveling in an 18-passenger bus from Lagos, fell prey to the armed assailants.

According to a reliable source, the unsuspecting passengers were ambushed, and the abductors forcefully led them into the forest. Describing the harrowing event, the source likened it to a scene from a movie. Promptly responding to the distress call, security agencies, including the Amotekun Corp, soldiers, the Police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), initiated a rescue operation to free the captives.

After an intense search, the victims were eventually found on Wednesday night, June 7, at Ikakumo area in Akoko North-East Local Government Area, approximately 20 kilometers away from Isua, where they were originally abducted. Following their rescue, the survivors were immediately taken to the Isua Police Station, where they received medical attention and support.

SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the incident and provided further details. She stated that during the operation, a fierce gun battle ensued between the security forces and the kidnappers, resulting in the death of one of the suspects. The joint efforts of the security operatives successfully neutralized the armed assailant, leading to the liberation of the hostages.

“The victims were rescued by the joint security operation. One of them was killed during the gun duel. We are on top of the situation,” stated SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya.
