Suspected Human Trafficker Apprehended, Five Boys Rescued

Amotekun operatives in Osun State have detained 23-year-old Isaac Okonu, a suspected human trafficker, for allegedly trafficking five children from Akwa-Ibom State.

According to Brigadier-General Bashir Adewinmbi, the commandant of Osun Amotekun Corps, the suspect was taken into custody at Ifetedo, Osun State, after the driver of the vehicle carrying them alerted the operatives to possible suspicious activity.

According to Adewimbi, the suspect misled the young boys into believing they were traveling to Lagos and took them from the community without getting their parents’ permission.

The suspect was apprehended on Thursday night, he said, and he admitted that the youngsters were supposed to be brought to a farm in Osun State.

During interrogation, Adewinmbi said, “The suspect confessed to meeting the boys in a motor park in Akwa Ibom State begging for money, and he told them if they could follow him to Lagos State, he could provide a job for them, and he took them inside the transport vehicle without the consent of their parents or relatives and moved them down to Osun State, heading to Ajebandele, before luck ran against him at Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government of Osun State.
