Nigeria claimed the Unity Cup title with a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Jamaica following a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time at the Gtech Community Stadium in London on Saturday.
The Super Eagles got off to a flying start, taking the lead within minutes of kickoff through winger Moses Simon.
But Jamaica hit back almost immediately, with Kaheim Dixon capitalising on a defensive lapse to level the score in what proved to be the start of a high-octane contest.
After a tense and occasionally heated first half, Nigeria restored their lead in the 53rd minute when Samuel Chukwueze delivered a moment of brilliance, cutting inside from the flank and firing a low drive into the bottom corner.
Jamaica, however, refused to back down. In the 64th minute, Jonathan Russell converted a well-placed cross from Cephas to bring the Reggae Boyz level once again.
Both teams pressed hard for a winner in the closing stages, with Wilfred Ndidi coming close for Nigeria and Jamaica threatening on the break.
But despite the late flurry of chances, the deadlock sent the match to a penalty shootout.
In the ensuing shootout, Nigeria held their nerve, converting five of their spot-kicks while Jamaica missed one, handing the Super Eagles a 5-4 win and the Unity Cup crown. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
