Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has opened up about his choice to stay with the club for his entire playing career, despite opportunities to leave and possibly secure a Premier League title elsewhere.
Gerrard stated that he rejected multiple chances to move because he did not want to be seen as “just another player at a giant club,” but instead aimed to build a lasting legacy at one.
Calling Liverpool his “life, refuge, and greatest pride,” the former midfielder explained that even during tough times and painful losses, he never seriously entertained the idea of leaving or switching loyalties.
He also looked back on the 2014 Premier League title race, acknowledging that his infamous slip remains a painful memory and that some still judge his career by that moment.
Despite the lingering regret, Gerrard emphasized that if he could go back, he would still choose loyalty to Liverpool, affirming that commitment to one club even through heartbreak means more to him than collecting trophies somewhere else.
