In a commendable display of swift action and bravery, the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, successfully rescued a kidnap victim and apprehended a suspect.
The Office of the State Commander of the Corps, Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo, announced this significant breakthrough through a statement released on Friday, July 14, as conveyed by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.
According to Commander Ganzallo, the rescue mission was initiated on July 13, 2023, after the Corps Headquarters assigned the Ijebu Zonal Command, led by ACC Marcus Ayankoya, with the task of rescuing a woman who had been kidnapped around 10 am while returning from the market.
Determined to secure her freedom, Commander Ganzallo swiftly directed his men to take immediate action and apprehend the culprits without harm to the victim.
It was revealed that the kidnappers, after forcefully taking the victim, seized her belongings, including her mobile phone, gold jewelry, N100,000 in cash, and an ATM card, before driving away with her in her own vehicle. Despite facing logistical challenges, the dedicated team from the So-Safe Corps relentlessly pursued the criminals.
Commander Ganzallo disclosed that their efforts yielded results when they received information about unusual footprints discovered on a farmland in the Oke-Ako Community, located in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area.
Acting promptly, the Corps Commander instructed the Isiwo/Itamapako Divisional Officer, SC Aderibigbe M.O, to mobilize a specialized squad to confront the suspected kidnappers head-on.
A fierce gun battle ensued between the crime suspects and the Corps, but the criminals eventually succumbed to the superior response and tactics of the So-Safe Corps. One of the kidnappers, identified as 32-year-old Tunde Salami and hailing from Ibadan, Oyo State, was captured alive, while the kidnapped victim was rescued unharmed, albeit traumatized. The So-Safe Corps recovered a locally-made pistol from the suspect, further highlighting the danger they posed.
Commander Ganzallo commended his team for their bravery and professionalism in resolving the kidnapping incident swiftly. He stated that both the suspect and the rescued victim had been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, specifically the Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
