Shettima Reveals Tinubu’s Plan to Discredit Islamization Narrative

  • Kashim Shettima, Vice President-elect, stated that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants the Senate President to be a Christian from the South-South to avoid the negative narrative of Islamization in Nigeria.
  • The comments come amid growing protests over the nomination of preferred choices of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as the presiding officers of the incoming 10th National Assembly.
  • Shettima met with the APC speaker and deputy speaker designate, and the APC has endorsed Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin for Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reportedly called for a Christian Senate President from the South-South to avoid the negative narrative of Islamization in Nigeria.

Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima made this known amidst growing protests over the nomination of the preferred choices of the APC for the presiding officers of the incoming 10th National Assembly.

Shettima recently met with the APC speaker and deputy speaker designate, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas from Kaduna State (North West) and Benjamin Kalu from Abia State (South East), respectively. However, the APC has purportedly endorsed Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom) and Barau Jibrin (Kano) for Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.

Shettima argued that having the number one, two, three, and four citizens all of the same faith would validate the negative narrative of Islamization in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of inclusivity and stability of the nation.

Meanwhile, a different issue has arisen regarding the allowance of officers who participated in the election. While an official from Kano State alleged that they were supposed to receive N50,000 each, they only got N5,000 instead.

Another official raised concerns about the rising level of corruption in the government and questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Osun Command, Adeleke Kehinde, stated that every officer who participated in the election has received their allowance for election duties.

However, the NSCDC’s director of public relations, Olusola Odumosu, could not be reached for further comments.
