Rumblings in Osun NSCDC as officials protest receiving N10,000 instead of N100,000 for election duties

  • NSCDC officials employed in 2019 are dissatisfied with the payment of N10,000 instead of N100,000 as an allowance for election duty in Osun State.
  • Other security officials received N40,000 after the 2022 gubernatorial election, while N60,000 was paid to other security personnel for the presidential/national assembly and state assembly elections.
  • NSCDC officials suspect that senior members of the organization are embezzling funds intended for junior cadets.
  • A spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun Command, Adeleke Kehinde, claims that every officer who participated in the election received an allowance greater than N10,000.

NSCDC officials employed in 2019 have expressed discontent with the payment of N10,000 as an allowance for election duty in Osun State, despite the overall allowance package being worth N100,000.

Other security officials reportedly received N40,000 and N60,000 after the gubernatorial and other elections, respectively.

The discrepancy in payments has led to suspicions of corruption, with officials alleging that senior members of the organization are embezzling funds intended for junior cadets.

One official forwarded screenshots of the N10,000 credit alerts to the media, expressing shock and disbelief at the low amount.

Another official, Seun (not his real name), condemned the act as inhumane and immoral and urged top NSCDC officials to act with integrity.

Despite this, a spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun Command, Adeleke Kehinde, claims that every officer who participated in the election received an allowance greater than N10,000.

The rising level of corruption amongst government officials has led to concern among NSCDC officials, with some questioning the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies.

The situation has prompted calls for the Rauf Aregbesola-led interior ministry to investigate and restore confidence in the agency’s officers.

The director of public relations for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu, could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
