Senegal Defeats Nigeria to Reach AfroBasket 2025 Semifinals for Fifth Consecutive Time

Nigeria’s unbeaten run at AfroBasket 2025 came to a crushing halt on Wednesday in Luanda as Senegal powered to a 91–75 victory to book their fifth straight semifinal appearance.

Brancou Badio was the star of the night, dropping 32 points to inspire the Lions past a Nigerian side that had entered the quarterfinals full of title hopes.

Nigeria edged the first quarter 24–23 after a thrilling exchange of leads, but Jean Jacques Boissy’s early three-pointer in the second period handed Senegal the lead for good.

Amar Sylla’s long-range shot extended the cushion to 29–24, and Nigeria never recovered.

A blistering 13–5 run put Senegal firmly in control, and despite Nigeria’s efforts, the gap only widened. Senegal led by as many as 24 points in the third quarter and never looked back.

Senegal will now face Mali in the semifinals — a rematch of their Group D clash, which the Lions won 80–70.
