The Nigerian senate has gone into a closed-door session following an Impasse over newest ministerial nominee, Festus Keyamo’s screening.
The ensue comes after two Senators from Abia state, Darlington Nkwocha and Eyinanya Abaribe, moved a motion citing section 88B to mandate the Senate to step down the screening of Festus Keyamo for “publicly ignoring summons from the national assembly”.
The senate chamber became rowdy for at least 10 minutes after the motion was moved in the house.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, who stood up to restore normalcy at the upper chamber, called the Senators to order while pointing out everyone have to remain silent each time he stands, in line with the laws of the senate.
Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele who was beckoned on to “lead the House” by the senate president, moved two motions, first for the Senate to extend the time for the Senate sitting beyond 2 pm and the second session to dissolve into an executive or closed-door session.
The motions were scaled through while the screening of Keyamo was deferred.
