Sanwo-Olu Announces 50% Reduction In Lagos Transport Fare

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved a 50% reduction in Bus Rapid Transit fares on Wednesday, and reduced fares for other state-owned transportation systems as well.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced that the 50% fare reduction applies to the LAGRIDE taxi scheme, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and Lagos Ferry Services. The reduction will be in effect for the next 7 days.

“To further support Lagosians to weather these stormy days, I hereby announce the following measures: A 50% cut in fares on all our BRT buses, LAGRIDE taxi-scheme, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY),” the governor said.

“This will take effect from tomorrow for the next seven days. We will push out more Cowrie Cards to enable more Lagosians to get onboard our services.”

In addition to the fare reduction, Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is running for a second term of 4 years, announced the establishment of food banks across the state. The food banks will distribute free meals to vulnerable residents of Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also stated that the state government has suspended road construction on Buba Maruwa and Ijegun-Egba to facilitate fuel distribution throughout the state. He appealed to residents to not take advantage of the economic challenges to commit crimes.
