Femi Falana, SAN, Human rights lawyer, joined the organised labour movement in Lagos State, on Wednesday, 2nd of August 2023 to protest against the Federal Government’s removal of the fuel subsidy.
While speaking at the protest venue, the human right lawyer stated there was no justification for getting services in Nigeria with dollars while also urging the government to only trade with countries that are prepared to accept the naira as the medium of exchange.
He said in part while addressing newsmen at the protest venue. He said,
“Comply with the rule of law, enforce the provisions of the Central Bank Act, allow our country to control its economy, and not hand over the economy to the IMF and World Bank.
“There can be no basis to allow some landlords to collect dollars in Nigeria as rents. There can be no basis for collecting school fees in Nigeria in dollars. There can be no justification for paying for certain services in our country in dollars and we are challenging the government to trade with countries that are prepared to accept the naira as a medium of exchange.’ [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>
