President Tinubu Deploys Troops to Kaiama, Denounces “Cowardly” Attáck

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area in Kwara State, in response to a brutal overnight assault on the Worro community allegedly carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.

In a statement on Tuesday, the President announced the launch of ‘Operation Savannah Shield,’ tasking the new military unit with hunting down the attackers, securing vulnerable areas, and preventing further incursions into the North Central region.

Tinubu condemned the violence as “cowardly and beastly,” denouncing the killing of unarmed civilians. He commended the community’s resistance, highlighting reports that residents rejected attempts to indoctrinate them into violent extremism.

“It is commendable that the community members refused to be drawn into an ideology that promotes violence over peace and dialogue,” the President stated.

He directed security agencies to collaborate with the Kwara State Government and local leaders to restore order, provide humanitarian aid to affected families, and ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted.

The President also offered his condolences to the victims’ families, the people of Worro, and the Kwara State Government, praying for the peaceful repose of those killed.

This military deployment comes amid heightened concerns about the expansion of insurgent activities beyond their traditional strongholds in Nigeria’s North-East. Authorities are expected to release further information regarding casualty figures and the full scope of the attack.
