Pres. Tinubu Departs Japan, Heads to Brazil for State Visit

President Bola Tinubu has departed Yokohama, Japan, after participating in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) and is now en route to Brazil for a state visit scheduled to begin on August 24.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President will make a brief stopover in Los Angeles before proceeding to Brasilia, the Brazilian capital.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu’s engagements in Japan were productive, including the TICAD9 opening ceremony, plenary sessions, bilateral meetings with partners, and interactions with Japanese firms investing in Nigeria.

The visit concluded with an interactive session with Nigerians in the diaspora.

The TICAD9 summit, co-hosted by Japan, the UN, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, focused on Africa’s economic transformation, investment, innovation, and building resilient societies.

Tinubu is expected to build on these discussions with fresh diplomatic and strategic cooperation during his Brazil visit.
