Pope Leo has invited people around the world to mark the feast day of the Queenship of Mary by fasting and offering prayers for peace in regions torn apart by violence.
The Queenship of Mary, observed annually on August 22, is a Catholic feast day established by Pope Pius XII in 1954 to honor Mary’s role as Queen of Heaven and Earth.
In a message posted on the X handle of Vatican News, the pontiff urged everyone to devote August 22 to seeking peace and justice through prayer and sacrifice.
“I invite all the faithful to devote the day of 22 August to fasting and prayer, imploring the Lord to grant us peace and justice, and to dry the tears of those who suffer as a result of the ongoing armed conflicts. Mary, Queen of Peace, intercede so that people may find the path to peace,” he said.
