Potential Erik Ten Hag Replacement At Man United Emerges

Thiago Motta has apparently emerged as a possible Manchester United replacement for Erik ten Hag after his outstanding performance with Bologna.

With Bologna presently sitting fourth in Serie A, the 41-year-old midfielder, a former player for Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain, has unfancied the team’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League.

Bologna hopes that Motta will extend his contract before it expires in the summer, but Gazzetta dello Sport is connecting the former Italy international, who was born in Brazil, to both Juventus and United.

Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford is in doubt as they attempt to finish in the top five of the Premier League in order to qualify for the Champions League the following season.

Ten Hag is also aiming to deliver, and Ineos and new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe will evaluate the Dutchman’s performance in the summer.

He replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic at Bologna in September 2022 and led them to a ninth-place finish in the previous season after retaining Spezia in Serie A against all odds in 2022.

But with his unconventional 4-3-3 configuration, which can also be read as a 2-7-2, Motta has elevated Bologna to a whole new level this season.

With individuals that can play several roles and three or four teammates available to whoever is on the ball, Motta has made a commitment to playing attacking football.
