Police to Resume Nationwide Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permits from January 2

The Nigeria Police Force will resume strict nationwide enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy starting Thursday, January 2, 2026.

The decision, announced in an official statement, follows a review that found vehicles with unauthorized tints are increasingly being used by criminals to conceal their identities during armed robberies, kidnappings, and other violent crimes.

The Force clarified that a court order had never banned the policy. Enforcement was previously paused to give motorists ample time to register and obtain the necessary permits legally.

With a noted rise in criminal exploitation of this suspension, the Police stated that resuming enforcement is now a “necessary and urgent” step for public safety.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the operation would be conducted professionally and in full compliance with the law.

Motorists are strongly advised to ensure their vehicles comply with regulations and to obtain valid permits through official channels to avoid penalties when enforcement begins.
