A policeman shot and killed a Lagos resident who stopped him from skipping the line to purchase petrol at a Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling station at Obalende in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.
It was learned that as Toheeb Eniafe was waiting in line to get fuel, two men who appeared to be police officers tried to drive into the station and buy fuel even though they weren’t in line for the product.
People in the line who had been waiting for hours stiffly resisted the police officers’ efforts to cut ahead of them.
Leading the resistance, Eniafe instructed the men to line up like everyone else.
After a physical altercation broke out, one of the men shot Eniafe and ran away.
One of the cops was allegedly pursued and caught up by an enraged mob, but he eventually got away by firing bullets into the air.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, verified on Thursday, May 2, that Eniafe’s shooter is a police officer.
According to Hundeyin, “A police officer stationed at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos, has been identified as the perpetrator of the shooting.”
“Investigation is still ongoing and further findings will be made available.
“Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]
