Police Intercept N13 Million Indian Hemp Shipment In Lagos

Operatives of the Aswani Division of the Lagos State Police Command have successfully intercepted a large consignment of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp.

The interception took place along the Mushin-Isolo road, marking another significant blow to drug trafficking in the state.

According to Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson for the command, the operation occurred during a routine stop-and-search on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at approximately 23:56hrs.

The diligent efforts of the officers resulted in the arrest of two individuals, identified as Fidelis Otiga, aged 49, and Chukwuma Kennedy, aged 50.

The illicit drugs, with an estimated street value of Thirteen Million Naira (N13,000,000.00), were discovered inside their vehicle, a Toyota Sienna car with registration number KJA 118 HV.

Following the arrest, the suspects, along with the seized exhibit, were promptly transferred to the Command headquarters for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.

This latest operation is a testament to the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command in curbing the menace of drug misuse and abuse within the state.

CP Idowu Owohunwa, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, reiterated the Command’s dedication to ensuring the security of lives and property in the region.

He assured the general public of ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offenses and emphasized the need for continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies and citizens to create a safer environment for all residents of Lagos State.

The successful interception and subsequent arrest serve as a clear message to drug traffickers and criminal elements, demonstrating that the Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its fight against illicit drug activities.
