Police Foil Armed Robbery Attempt At GoldWise Jewellery Shop In Owerri (Photo)

The Imo State Police Command has successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt at the luxury gold store, GoldWise Jewellery Shop, located in Ikenegbu by Kilomanjoro, Owerri, the state capital. The incident took place yesterday afternoon when heavily armed men dressed in Army camouflage stormed the store, catching the workers and customers by surprise.

However, quick thinking and decisive action by a police officer and a VIP guest who happened to be present at Kilomanjoro for lunch saved the day.

Pplll loll lThe police officer opened fire on the suspected robbers’ driver, who was inside their Hilux van, neutralizing him and demobilizing the robbers. The police officer then called for reinforcement from the state police command.

In swift response, the police tactical team for special operations attached to Tiger Base Squad arrived at the scene and engaged in a hot pursuit of the fleeing robbers. During the chase, the police were able to capture two of the robbers alive, while one managed to escape.

Notably, the police were successful not only in neutralizing one of the robbers and apprehending two others, but they also recovered the stolen gold items from the jewellery shop, valued at over ₦200 million.

The suspects caught alive have been identified as Peter Gaura, 27 years old from Kogi State, and Promise Joshua, 25 years old from Delta State. It was revealed that Peter Gaura was a dismissed soldier, adding to the gravity of the crime.

While being paraded by the Imo State Police Command, Joshua confessed to working as a bouncer at a recently opened popular hotel in Owerri.
