The Kano state police command has paraded some criminals who were arrested before, during and after the May 29 swearing in ceremony of the state executive governor and deputy governor.
The criminals were paraded by the commissioner of police, Kano State police command, Mohammed Usaini Gumel at the Bompai Police Headquarters Kano.
He stated:
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press;
You are once again welcome to Bompai, the Headquarters of Kano State Police Command. We invite you here to update you of the security situation of the State and the recent breakthroughs and successes recorded by the Command specially during the just concluded Kano State Governor and his Deputy’s Inauguration Ceremony which was held on 29th May, 2023 at Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.
- Prior to the Inauguration Ceremony, the Command had issued Press Statement on 27th May, 2023 of which it was clearly stated that criminals and saboteurs should steer clear of the Inauguration activities and that their hideout locations have been identified by the relevant Law Enforcement personnels and our searchlight already beamed. In furtherance, prospectus troublemakers were humbly advised to change for good, repent and become law abiding. While some heed to the advice, the recalcitrant among them felt that we cannot match our words with action, refused to listen to us and took us for granted thinking that we are jockers. Now, that 93 among them are here in our lawful custody and they will soon be charged to court. I am confident that the Law courts will take the appropriate steps and actions that will serve as deterrence against any other prospective criminals.
- It was in fulfilment of those promises and ensuring peaceful and hitch-free Inauguration Ceremony, the Command launched series of crackdown operations on those agents of insecurity and will continue to flush them from their hideout relentlessly. Members of the public should note that, it was within the last seven (7) days that these ninety-three (93) suspects were arrested with the details as follows;
a. Mobile Phones Robbery
(i) Number of Incidents – 11 cases were recorded
(ii) Number of Suspects Arrested – 56

- During the ongoing Police preliminary investigation, there are reasonable suspicion on these suspects for being saboteurs and sponsored criminals especially the way that they were found while in possession of dangerous weapons and more disturbingly, acting under influence of illicit drugs / substances and in preparation for launching of those weapons to rob, commit Culpable Homicide, and eventually disrupt the entire Inauguration processes. All the suspects will therefore be charged to court on those offenses.
- On this note, we are advising everyone to be law-abiding, and, whatever comes as a warning or a piece of advice from this police command should henceforth be taken seriously by the public. The Hausa adage “A fada a Cika” attributed to the command is indeed a reality, and not subject to ridicule. We will continue to match our words with actions until all criminally minded people repented, change for good or leave the state. Otherwise, we’re not going to stop chasing them and until they are forced to face the full wrath of the law.
- Finally, I must express my appreciation to the good people of Kano State for their understanding and cooperation that resulted in a peaceful May 29 Governorship Inauguration Ceremony. God willing, we will continue to serve you to the best of our ability to surmount any likely emerging security threats. “A safer Kano State is possible with the support of everyone”. On this note, we urge residents to continue to report security incidents to the Police and not to take laws into their hands. In case of emergencies, Kano State Police Command can be contacted through the following mobile phone numbers; 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926.
