President Bola Tinubu, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), held a meeting with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) known as the G5. The meeting took place at the presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday and lasted for several hours.
Among the attendees were Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo state; Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers state; Samuel Ortom, the immediate past governor of Benue; Okezie Ikpeazu, the former governor of Abia; and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the former governor of Enugu.
While the exact details of the meeting remain undisclosed, speculations suggest that it may be related to Tinubu’s ongoing consultations regarding the formation of his cabinet. As Tinubu is widely expected to contest the presidency in the upcoming elections, such meetings with members of opposing parties raise eyebrows and spark curiosity.
The G5, a faction within the PDP’s Integrity Group, gained prominence after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the winner of the party’s presidential primary election in May 2022. Prior to the election, members of the Integrity Group had demanded that the presidential ticket be zoned to the southern part of the country, in accordance with the party’s rotational system.
