Amos Nzioki, a pharmacist, appeared before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku of the Mombasa Magistrate Court on Tuesday, facing charges of conducting an abortion on a 15-year-old girl.
The young girl was reportedly impregnated through defilement by an unidentified man who is currently at large. According to K24tv, Nzioki was arraigned after being accused of performing an induced abortion on the minor at his private chemist in Tudor on June 3, 2023.
The Director of Public Prosecution’s office stated that the doctor committed the offense, leading to the termination of the pregnancy.
The victim’s guardian promptly reported the incident to the police, which led to Nzioki’s arrest. As part of the investigation, the girl was taken to Coast General Hospital, where doctors confirmed that an abortion had taken place.
Law enforcement authorities are currently in search of the man accused of defiling and impregnating the minor. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the suspect.
During the court hearing, Nzioki pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was subsequently released on a bond of Ksh 300,000, with one surety required to provide a similar amount. Alternatively, he was given the option of a cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
