The Former Governor of Borno State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has alleged that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is on the verge of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obi, who left the PDP in 2022 to contest under the Labour Party, is currently aligned with a coalition of opposition figures seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The coalition recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform for the next general election.
However, internal rifts and clashing ambitions within the alliance — notably those of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi — have raised concerns that Obi might reconsider his stance.
Speaking on Channels TV on Monday, Sheriff said:
“As far as this politics is concerned, ADC doesn’t exist. Give the party three months and it will die down. The information available to me is that at any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP.”
Sheriff also asserted that the APC’s political structure remains solid and predicted the ruling party would maintain power in the 2027 elections.
