The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented its case to the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Tuesday, revealing that certain documents requested by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, to support his challenge against the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the 2023 election, do not exist.
During the court proceedings, Mr. Lawrence Bayode, INEC’s Deputy Director of ICT, provided testimony stating that out of the five documents Obi had requested from the commission, two were non-existent, and one was still being worked on.
One of Obi’s witnesses, Ms. Loretta Ogah, an ICT cloud engineer and LP candidate for the House of Representatives in Cross River State, testified during cross-examination. She informed the court that she had filed a lawsuit against INEC after losing the election due to her name not being listed on the commission’s portal, which was attributed to network failure.
Under cross-examination by Mr. Wole Olanipakun (SAN), counsel for Tinubu and Shettima, Ogah stated that glitches did not occur on INEC’s portal on February 25. She also mentioned that she was not familiar with INEC’s password protocol as she was not an employee of the commission.
Following the proceedings, Justice Haruna Tsammani, presiding over the court, adjourned further hearings to Wednesday.
