Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo Defends His Tattoo, Says Scripture Doesn’t Ban Them

Renowned relationship coach and pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has countered religious critics of his new John 3:16 tattoo, dismissing widespread condemnation of body art as baseless and restrictive.

In an interview with News Central, Okonkwo asserted there is no biblical or scientific foundation for declaring tattoos sinful or a mark of poor character. He argued that many religious figures wrongly enforce personal opinions or institutional policies as doctrine without justification.

“There is no scripture that says a child of God cannot have a tattoo,” he stated. “People keep shouting that tattoos are bad, yet nobody can explain why. There is no scriptural proof, no scientific proof—just assumptions.”

He criticized the practice of associating physical appearance with morality, calling it a regressive mindset that hinders social progress. He noted it is irrational to blame clothing, lifestyle, or tattoos for criminal behaviour.

To illustrate his point, Okonkwo compared the stigma against tattoos to condemning an item of clothing because a criminal wore it. “If someone wore jeans and robbed a bank, does that mean jeans are now bad?” he asked.

The pastor emphasized that character is defined by values, not outward appearance, adding that both virtuous and corrupt individuals can have tattoos. “I can give you ten good people with tattoos, and you can give me ten bad ones. So what does that prove?” he questioned.

He further connected this judgmental attitude to the broader hesitation of many Christians to engage in sectors like politics, which they often deem “dirty.” This avoidance, he warned, cedes influence in critical areas to others, leading to complaints about poor governance.

“We avoid everything that looks bad, and then we complain,” Okonkwo remarked.

He concluded by urging Christians to prioritize genuine faith, personal integrity, and positive impact over superficial judgments rooted in cultural stereotypes.
