Pastor Dachomo Reassures Nigerian Christians, Declares ‘Help Is On The Way’ After U.S. Delegation Visit

Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo has provided assurance to displaced and persecuted Christian communities in Nigeria that “help is on the way,” following a significant visit from a U.S. Congressional delegation to Benue State.

Dachomo, a Nigerian pastor and human rights advocate from Plateau State, is known for his leadership of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) and his efforts to combat communal violence. He has gained recognition for documenting attacks and mass burials in Nigeria’s Middle Belt.

In response to remarks made by U.S. Congressman Rep. Riley M. Moore of West Virginia during his recent visit to Nigeria with other lawmakers, Dachomo reflected on the criticisms he has faced for “standing on the side of truth.” He expressed optimism that the renewed international focus represents a pivotal moment.

“Many have spoken against me for standing on the side of truth,” he stated. “Even when attempts are made to suppress it, truth cannot remain concealed forever. While my Facebook account may have been deactivated for highlighting these concerns, the light of truth will always shine. Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help is on the way.”

His comments came after Rep. Moore shared on X details of the delegation’s findings from their visit to Benue. Moore recounted meetings with Catholic Bishops Wilfred Anagbe and Stephen Dugu, as well as the Tor Tiv, and interactions with internally displaced individuals who shared their experiences of ongoing attacks on their communities.

Moore described hearing “heartbreaking stories” from victims, including a woman who narrated the tragic killing of her five children. He characterized the violence as part of a “horrific genocidal campaign” linked to extremist factions within Fulani communities.

“I’ve never seen anything like it. It will haunt me for the rest of my life,” Moore remarked.

He also mentioned that he is preparing a report for the heads of state and government in the United States, outlining recommendations for coordinated efforts with the Nigerian government aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and addressing ongoing terrorist threats.

Dachomo, who has been an outspoken advocate regarding attacks on Christian populations in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, noted that Moore’s statements and his interview on U.S. television indicate a growing international awareness of the crisis.
