Benin-Akure road has been rendered impassable by severe flooding, bringing traffic to a standstill and forcing desperate passengers to pay exorbitant fees to cross submerged sections.
The surging waters have also reportedly sacked at least three villages along the critical highway, leaving residents displaced and in dire straits.
With no alternative routes immediately available, hundreds of travellers are stranded on both sides of the floodwaters.
Opportunistic individuals with canoes and makeshift rafts are reportedly charging passengers as much as N3,000 per person to ferry them across the flooded areas, a sum many find difficult to afford. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
