JAMB Alleges Identity Fráud by 2025 UTME Top Scorer Chinedu Okeke, Accuses Him of Manipulating Records for Multiple Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has refuted growing social media support for Chinedu Okeke, a high-performing candidate in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), accusing him of manipulating personal data and attempting to gain multiple admissions under different identities.

In a statement released by Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, the Board condemned what it called a “dist¥rbing trend” of shielding irregularities with emotional appeals and misinformation.

It warned that personal interests should not be placed above due process and truth.

According to JAMB, Okeke is not from Anambra State, as widely claimed online, but from Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.

This Lagos identity was used in 2021, when he sat for UTME and secured admission into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to study Medicine and Surgery. He is currently in his fourth year in that programme.

The Board questioned why a student nearing the end of a medical degree would attempt to register for UTME again in 2025, this time opting for Mechanical Engineering and presenting himself as a candidate from Anambra State.

JAMB described this as a clear attempt to m@nipulate state-based admission quotas and alter official records.

“All candidate data is verified using the National Identification Number (NIN), and JAMB does not tamper with this information,” the statement clarified.

The agency dismissed as false the claim that it had retrieved incorrect information from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in 2021.

Instead, it alleged that Okeke had edited his own records before registering for the 2025 examination—an action it said has been acknowledged by even those defending him online.

JAMB expressed concern over the emotional campaign being waged on social media, accusing commentators of ignoring the facts and attempting to sway public opinion by contacting Okeke’s family instead of seeking clarification from relevant institutions.

As of now, the University of Nigeria has not issued any statement refuting JAMB’s account. The Board said it will continue to regard Okeke as a bonafide student of the university but will alert the Medical and Dental Council if the suspected identity manipulation is confirmed.

Furthermore, JAMB accused Okeke of trying to exploit admission advantages in two states, using Lagos State in 2021 and attempting to claim Anambra State in 2025 thereby potentially displacing other qualified candidates.

“JAMB will not be swayed by social media noise or sentimental appeals,” Benjamin emphasized. “We remain committed to transparency, data integrity, and the rule of law.”

He added, “Chinedu Okeke’s attempt to rewrite his identity raises serious questions. Our system is built on verifiable data from NIMC. We neither alter nor supplement candidate information. The claim that JAMB retrieved the wrong data from NIMC is false and misleading. The evidence shows that Chinedu edited his previously submitted information before the 2025 UTME.”

To further protect the integrity of the admission process, JAMB said it is working closely with NIMC to ensure all candidate data remains accurate and tamper-proof. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
