Kuka community in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was struck with both shock and compassion as residents rallied together to rescue a one-month-old baby boy found abandoned on the banks of Gurara River.
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded on Saturday, June 24, when a fisherman, while checking his nets, stumbled upon the helpless infant.
According to a resident named Saidu Ibrahim, the fisherman made the startling discovery of the baby, who was carefully wrapped in clothes. Astonishingly, a N1,000 note was also found tucked within the garments, perhaps a gesture intended to ensure the baby’s welfare. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the fisherman promptly brought the newborn to the chief’s palace.
Upon receiving the news, the community’s chief swiftly intervened, directing that the baby be taken to the social welfare department of Kwali Area Council.
While the motives behind the baby’s abandonment remain unclear, authorities are now launching an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the baby’s abandonment and locate any potential family members.
