Nollywood veteran Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has made a passionate appeal for Nigerian leaders capable of extreme self-sacrifice ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television on Sunday, the actress lamented the nation’s unfulfilled potential, noting that despite possessing abundant resources and opportunities envied by other nations, tangible progress remains elusive.
“I wish our leaders were bold enough to make decisions that could truly liberate this country, even if it meant dying for Nigeria,” she stated emphatically.
Omotola argued that no country is inherently immune to chaos, using the United States as an example where lawlessness could prevail without strong laws and enforcement. She emphasised that true national stability is built on accountability and strict adherence to the rule of law.
She also expressed deep scepticism towards political rhetoric, condemning insincere campaign promises. “We saw the people coming to say ‘I love Nigeria.’ I was poor. I did not have one shoe. All are lies. They don’t care,” she remarked critically.
Her comments underscore the growing public demand for courageous and genuinely selfless leadership as the country approaches the next electoral cycle.
