Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, faced an unexpected ordeal when his convoy was left stranded at the RCC junction on Sapele Road, Benin, Edo State. The incident occurred on Friday after heavy rainfall inundated the road, making it impassable.
A video capturing the scene quickly went viral, with a background voice heard urging viewers to share the footage as a form of retribution for leaders who neglect their duties to assist the people.
The male voice in the background conveyed frustration, stating, “When we told the government to fix the road, they were busy filling the potholes with broken blocks. They think they are inflicting suffering on the masses. Now it is payback time, as the masses are not the only ones suffering from the collapse of this road.”
He continued, “The governor is the one inside the vehicle, but it has stopped moving. This is his vehicle (pointing at it), and he cannot come down as he is ashamed. Everyone, both the poor and the rich, is feeling the brunt of bad policies in the country.”
After some time, the convoy managed to navigate away from the flooded portion of the road, but the incident brought attention to the dire state of the infrastructure.
In response to the incident, Governor Obaseki issued a statement on Sunday, confirming that he was indeed stranded on Sapele Road due to the flooding. He expressed his concern over the neglect of the Benin-Sapele Road and called it a scandalous situation. The Governor highlighted the significance of regions contributing to the country’s oil resources and stressed that they should not be ignored.
“We have done everything possible. We don’t know what to do again to draw the attention of the federal government to these roads,” Governor Obaseki lamented, shedding light on the urgency of addressing the deteriorating road conditions in the region. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
