Notorious Drug Kingpin Arrested In Lagos Hotel As NDLEA Foil Trafficking Scheme

A major breakthrough was achieved by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) when they apprehended a notorious drug kingpin known for sponsoring young Nigerians to traffic Class A drugs to Europe, particularly Italy. The arrest took place late on Friday, July 21, at a hotel in the Okota area of Lagos.

The drug kingpin, identified as Charles Uwagbale, 48, had devised a devious plan to use a recruited courier, Uju Dominic, 35, to smuggle cocaine into Italy. Uju, who had been residing in Italy, was lured back to Nigeria by Uwagbale with a tempting deal to ingest 100 pellets of cocaine before returning to Italy the following day.

However, the NDLEA had been closely monitoring Uwagbale’s activities based on credible intelligence, and they sprung into action just in time. The operatives stormed the Golden Heaven Hotel on Enoma Street, off Ago-Palace Way, Okota, Isolo, Lagos, where Uwagbale and Uju were staying.

At approximately 11:45 pm on Friday night, the drug lord had already provided Uju with 93 pellets of cocaine, ready for ingestion. Before their sinister plan could be executed, NDLEA agents stormed their hotel room, apprehended both individuals, and confiscated the drug exhibits.

The total weight of the seized cocaine amounted to 1.427 kilograms, indicating the scale of the illicit drug operation. The arrest of the drug kingpin and his courier not only foiled their immediate trafficking attempt but also dealt a significant blow to the drug network responsible for spreading Class A drugs, particularly cocaine, to Europe.

In a statement released by Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the NDLEA, the agency praised the operatives for their diligence and efficiency in thwarting the drug trafficking scheme. The successful operation represents a major milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Nigeria and safeguard the lives of vulnerable young Nigerians who might be lured into the dangerous world of drug smuggling.
