Muslim Devotees Spit Fire As Davido’s Signee Release Controversial Musical Video (Video)

Davido Music Worldwide (*DMW) label boss, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his signee, Olamilekan Taiwo, aka Logos Olori, have found themselves in hot water after the release of the latter’s new music video, ‘Jaye Lo.’ The 45-second clip, posted on Instagram by Davido last Friday, has ignited a firestorm of mixed reactions from netizens.

In the video, a controversial scene features men dressed as praying mallams, dancing in front of a mosque, rather than engaging in prayer. This portrayal has been deemed offensive by some Muslim devotees who argue that it mocks their religious practices.

Ahmad Ganga, a Personal Assistant in the Federal House of Representatives, expressed his disapproval on Twitter, stating that the video depicted Muslims as morons and conveyed a disrespectful message about mosques being used as dance clubs instead of places of worship.

Following the video’s release, many Muslim devotees took to social media to voice their outrage. Some threatened the artiste with legal action, calling for a retraction and an apology from Davido. The sentiment was shared by various individuals who expressed their disappointment and condemnation of the perceived disrespect towards Islam.

One Muslim devotee even warned Davido and Logos Olori against setting foot in the North, stating that disrespect towards their religion would not be tolerated.

Muslim News Nigeria, a Muslim news platform, also joined the conversation, highlighting the calls from Nigerian Muslims for Davido to remove the offensive scene from the video.

Despite the backlash, some fans and allies have come to Davido’s defense, pointing out that similar videos shot in predominantly Muslim countries have not faced such controversies.

While Davido has remained silent on the issue, the debate continues to rage online, with supporters and detractors arguing over the portrayal of Islam in the music video.
