Nigerian Police Launch Portal For CMRIS Application, See How To Apply

Nigerian police force launch the Central Motor Registry Information System (CMRIS) portal as a step towards enhancing national security and addressing motor vehicle theft.

The portal allows motor vehicle owners to apply for information related to vehicle ownership and other details that can aid in the investigation and recovery of stolen vehicles.

According to the announcement made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Engr AbdulHafiz Toriola, the Proof of Ownership Certificate (POC) will be a mandatory requirement for all vehicles in Lagos state starting from July. Additionally, the POC will need to be renewed annually as part of the vehicle registration process.

Previously, Nigerians were only required to obtain a Proof of Ownership when purchasing a used vehicle or when changing the engine of their vehicle.

It’s worth noting that the implementation of the POC policy will impact all classes of vehicles, including motorcycles, tricycles, mini vehicles, saloon cars, trucks, articulated vehicles, and other modes of transportation used for conveying people or products.

This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that vehicle owners have the necessary documentation to prove ownership and to aid in the prevention and investigation of motor vehicle-related crimes.

The introduction of the CMRIS portal and the mandatory requirement of the Proof of Ownership Certificate demonstrate the Nigerian government’s commitment to improving security measures and combating vehicle theft in the country.
