A 31-year-old Nigerian man has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting two women on trains travelling between Hampshire and London, following an investigation by the British Transport Police (BTP).
Esosa Eguakin, a resident of Courtelle Road, Coventry, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault at an earlier hearing. On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, he was handed a two-year prison term at Guildford Crown Court.
In a statement released Monday, February 23, the BTP confirmed that Eguakin was also issued a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which imposes strict restrictions, including a ban on sitting or standing next to or opposite lone women.
Court documents revealed that on August 21, 2025, Eguakin boarded a Fratton to London Waterloo service shortly after 7:15 a.m. During the journey, he deliberately sat behind a woman in her 30s and sexually assaulted her.
In a separate incident on October 6, just after 6 a.m., he sexually assaulted another woman on an Eastleigh to London Waterloo train. When confronted, he claimed he was trying to retrieve a dropped phone.
Eguakin reportedly refused to move away, prompting an off-duty police officer to intervene and escort him off the train at Woking. The officer detained him at the station until responding officers arrived and took him into custody.
A BTP investigation into both incidents led to formal charges and his subsequent conviction on two counts of sexual assault.
Detective Constable David Stewart of the BTP described the offences as “predatory and deeply distressing” for the victims.
