Renowned Nigerian business magnate, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, has passed away at the age of 94.
His personal aide, Mustapha Junaid, confirmed the news in a statement released early Saturday.
“Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our beloved father, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Janazah details will be announced later, insha Allah,” the statement read.
Dantata, who was the granduncle of Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, hailed from a legacy of wealth. His father, Alhassan Dantata, is widely regarded as Nigeria’s first millionaire and one of West Africa’s wealthiest men in the early 20th century.
Aminu Dantata served as Kano State Commissioner for Planning and Development from 1967 to 1972. He made his mark in the northern business landscape as founder of Express Petroleum & Gas Company Ltd and was also instrumental in the establishment of Jaiz Bank.
He was the pioneer chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Katsina, and a key promoter of the Kano State Endowment Fund, which supports education and small-scale businesses. Over the years, he donated generously to numerous institutions and causes across Kano.
