Nigeria Senate screens Kekere-Ekun for confirmation as CJN

The Senate on Wednesday, 25th of September, 2024, commenced screening of the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, for confirmation as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

This screening comes after President Bola Tinubu sent a letter to the lawmakers which was presented during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

Kekere-Ekun has been serving as the Acting CJN since the retirement of Justice Ariwoola last month.

The 66-year-old jurist is the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria and the second Nigeria female jurist to occupy that position.

The first female to serve in that position was Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, who served between July 2012 and November 2014. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>
