Nigeria Needs Help, But Must Avoid ‘Crim!nal’ Allies, Says Sheikh Gumi

Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has argued that while Nigeria needs international support to address its security crisis, such assistance must not come from what he described as criminal or unethical partners.

In a statement posted on social media, Gumi emphasized that all nations occasionally require external security help. “The argument is simple: do we need help? Yes, every nation needs help for its security,” he wrote.

However, he cautioned against accepting aid from entities that engage in or enable criminal behavior, racism, religious extremism, or genocide. Gumi warned that relying on such actors could worsen Nigeria’s challenges rather than solve them.

He stressed the importance of forming international partnerships based on ethical conduct, respect for law, and clear principles.
