Niger Troops Intercept Another Weapons Shipment Bound For ISWAP

In a daring operation on Friday, elements of the GNN (Ground National Guard) stationed in N’Gagam successfully ambushed a white Hilux vehicle carrying two individuals near the village of Ouragou. The incident took place as the GNN forces were conducting routine patrols in the area.

After the ambush, the GNN forces immediately gave chase as the suspects attempted to escape. The pursuit covered a distance of over 30 kilometers, with the individuals eventually abandoning their vehicle due to a flat tire northeast of Ndjariho, approximately 28 kilometers northwest of Kablewa.

Undeterred by the setback, the determined GNN elements continued the pursuit on foot. Their relentless efforts paid off as they successfully apprehended the first suspect only 2 kilometers from Ndjariho. The second suspect was captured after a 20-kilometer chase towards the village of Barram Moussa.

During a subsequent search of the abandoned Hilux vehicle, the GNN forces made a significant discovery. They uncovered a large cache of ammunition, including 1 box of 1,400 cartridges of 7.62x39mm, 19 cartridges of 700 cartridges each, 6 medium packs containing 100 cartridges each of 7.62x39mm, and 58 small packs containing 20 cartridges of 7.62x39mm each. In total, the seized ammunition amounted to 6,970 cartridges of 7.62x39mm, stored in bags totaling 23,430 cartridges.

The GNN forces have successfully prevented a potentially dangerous situation by intercepting these individuals and confiscating the substantial amount of ammunition they were carrying. The suspects and the seized ammunition have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal proceedings.
